Indications:

• In the treatment and temporary relief of nasal and sinus congestion

• Sneezing and runny nose caused by a common cold

• Seasonal and permanent allergic rhinitis

Mechanism of action:

Chlorpheniramine maleate acts by competing with histamine to bind to H1 receptors on histamine-affected cells. This prevents the intermediate reactions of histamine but does not eliminate the effects. Chlorinephenyramine also inhibits the muscarinic effects of acetylcholine and can cause dry mouth and nasal mucosa.

Phenylephrine is a sympathomimetic amine with a direct effect on adrenergic receptors that is used to relieve symptomatic nasal congestion and in combination with other drugs as a symptomatic treatment for colds.

Administration:

In adults: 1-2 capsules every 4 to 6 hours and a maximum of 8 capsules per day.

In children over 12 years: one capsule every 4 to 6 hours and a maximum of 4 capsules per day

Dosage in the elderly is adjusted by the treating physician.

Contraindication:

If you have a history of allergies to this drug, do not use it.

Warning:

• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for the next dose, take the prescribed dose and avoid doubling the dose.

Drug interactions:
